The Coalition to Protect Senior Care (CPSC) represents a geographically diverse cross-section of clinicians and front-line caregiver groups dedicated to preserving, protecting and defending our ability to provide high quality nursing home care to the three million Medicare beneficiaries who depend upon it annually. Our goal as caregivers is to advance policies that support quality and help spur continuous quality improvement.

The Coalition was launched at a Capitol Hill news briefing on November 1, 2007. Through national, state and local briefing events, media outreach and other grassroots activities, the Coalition's more than 150,000 members work to alert and educate seniors, caregivers, federal and state policymakers and the public-at-large about matters related to our professional caregiving mission.

CPSC strongly supports health care reform efforts that seek to improve care access, quality and cost-efficiency. Reform of the nation's health care system and its complex state and federal patchwork coordination of financing mechanisms requires a systemic overhaul, and we are carefully monitoring and commenting on key developments in Washington, D.C. and a number of state capitols. CPSC strongly opposes federal Medicare "reforms" that will end up simply cutting funding and slashing the very front-line care jobs that make a difference in patient outcomes. Specifically, we believe and see from first-hand experience that funding cuts to seniors' Medicare Part A nursing home benefit endangers the quality of care for America's frail, elderly and disabled citizens. In a consistent manner, and in every public policy debate, our membership will always spotlight the indisputable fact that there is and always will be a direct correlation between adequate funding and care quality.
